Summer 2022

Session Dates: June 26 - July 22, 2022

Location: On-Campus

A hands-on experience for future engineers.

This summer, engineer creative solutions to some of the world's most challenging questions.

The world we live in is changing. Engineering and technological advances in the last few decades have exponentially improved human living conditions and life expectancy, and have ultimately brought the world together. But they have also created planet-wide challenges such as environmental issues, food and water shortages, and over population.

Spend your summer tackling some of these crucial global challenges alongside world-class faculty from LMU's nationally-ranked civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering departments, and learn how engineering innovations can prepare us to face and mitigate these obstacles in the coming years.

In weeks one and two, students will receive in-class instruction overviewing modern engineering innovations and the many great engineering achievements in the last century. In the second half of the program, students will be placed into working groups and select a topic from National Academy of Engineering's Grand Challenges for Engineering - a list of 14 game-changing goals for improving life on the planet, identified by an international group of leading technological thinkers from around the world. Students will use their final two weeks focusing on hands-on projects that seek cutting-edge solutions to challenges in four broad realms of human concern: sustainability, health, security, and joy of living.

Students who successfully complete this program will receive college credit. Students must have completed junior year of high school by the start of summer 2022 to attend.
