Location: Online

Under the guidance of LMU faculty, who are longtime professional actors with credits including 24, That 70s Show, Entourage, Beauty Shop, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Mad Men, The Mentalist, Switched at Birth and The Big Bang Theory, students will explore the techniques used to craft performances for the camera, with a focus on film, television and web series.

The course will be administered via the Zoom web platform, giving you the opportunity to meet and learn alongside students from around the world. Each day will consist of a morning session for two and a half hours, where students will get to know each other, build relationships, experience college-level lectures as well as participate in live performance. Breakout rooms in Zoom will allow for two-person scene work to be recorded, then shared with the group for feedback. Each afternoon, coaching sessions will be scheduled with the professor while other students work with a partner in a breakout room. Advances in phone and computer cameras make this an ideal class for online instruction. A lavalier microphone and tripod will be provided so the students can shoot material at home and share it with the group.

In the first week of the program, each student will prepare two to three monologues. In week two students will create a silent scenario that they will shoot on their own and share with the group for feedback. Multiple angles and frame sizes for this exercise will be edited by a graduate teaching assistant. Finally, students will rehearse and shoot one to two scenes of their choosing. The professor will coach the students in class and advise on how to shoot the scenes remotely. The final product will be edited by the professor and a teaching assistant. Students will have the chance to participate in the editing process via screen share technology to learn how editing can effect the final product of their performance.

Edited scenes and all the work done in the course will be delivered to the students at the completion of the program.
