Producing Visual FX

A student works on a film project at LMU

Summer 2024

Session Dates: June 23 - July 6, 2024

Location: On-Campus

Learning how to produce visual FX from script to screen.

Course Description

This program is designed to help students broaden their understanding of film production and the implementation of visual effects (VFX) and virtual production as storytelling. It is built for students who are interested in pursuing careers as producers, directors, VFX supervisors, and VFX artists and is guided by an award-winning producer with over 24 years of experience in the industry.

Students will receive an overview of virtual production and visual development methodologies, pre-visualization techniques, budgeting, script breakdown, on-set implementation and collaboration, and post-production workflow and delivery. They will also have the opportunity to get hands-on with project-based, collaborative exercises designed to help them put each lesson into practice.

This program is ideal for highly motivated creatives who wish to influence a film from script to screen, and who are eager to learn about multiple aspects of the VFX production process. While elements of VFX techniques will be discussed, it is not intended to be a deep dive into VFX software and tools. Instead, it is meant to be an introduction to the process of producing.
