Ignite: College Prep Dance Intensive

Student dances in LMU dance studio

Summer 2026

Session Dates: June 21 - July 3, 2026

Location: On-Campus

Igniting the technique, creativity, and choreography in emerging dance artists.

In this two-week intensive, students will immerse themselves in the art and craft of dance creation through both technique and composition. Rooted in contemporary and street styles, the course invites participants to explore how movement can express ideas, tell stories, and build community.

Mornings are dedicated to technique classes designed to expand their embodied practice through physical range, musicality, and performance presence. Students will train in contemporary, modern, and street dance forms, gaining versatility and confidence while connecting technical skill to artistic intention.

Afternoons shift into composition and creative process labs, where dancers will generate movement, explore choreographic structures, and collaborate with peers to build original works. Through guided improvisation, journaling, and feedback sessions, participants will deepen their understanding of how to craft movement that communicates meaning. The program culminates in a final performance sharing, where students present short original works developed during the intensive.

Designed for passionate young dancers considering a college degree and professional career, this program cultivates curiosity, collaboration, and the courage to create—equipping students with the tools to make dances that reflect who they are and the world they move in.

  • Our dance program is residential in nature, taking place on LMU's Los Angeles-area campus. There are no commuter options at this time - all participants are required to live on campus for the duration of their program.
