This course introduces students to the principles and practices of Visual Communication Design. Students explore how typography, color, imagery, composition, and visual hierarchy can be used to communicate ideas, tell stories, and engage audiences.

Through hands-on projects, students develop creative problem-solving, concept development, and visual storytelling skills while exploring branding, digital media, content creation, and graphic design. The course also introduces students to diverse applications and career opportunities in the field of visual communication.

  • Visual Communication Design is a residential program on LMU's Los Angeles-area campus. There are no commuter options at this time - all participants are required to live on campus for the duration of their program.

  • Past programs have included trips to museum exhibits and historic Los Angeles area printing companies. 

     

    • Use typography, color, images, and layout to create clear and engaging visual designs.
    • Develop creative ideas and solve design problems through hands-on projects and experimentation.
    • Create visual designs that communicate ideas and tell stories through graphic and digital media.
  • Application Fee: $65

    2026 Program Cost: $6,500*

    The program cost includes:

    • Tuition for two-week, non-credit course
    • Housing and meals for two weeks
    • Course materials
    • Use of campus recreation facilities
    • Class field trips
    • Two weekend social trips off campus

  • This class is open to rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. 

    Requirements:

    • Letter of Recommendation from a teacher or counselor
    • High School Transcripts
    • $65 Application Fee
    • TOEFL Scores (for International applicants whose primary language is not English)
